How to find the start line when there isn’t one to see!
It all begins with an idea.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has side-lined many activities as we know them but did it have to? Living an active lifestyle is a matter of choice. Circumstances including physical and/or mental health conditions may limit us but as we have all witnessed and practiced over the past 15 months, adapting to our circumstances is proving to be manageable, successful and enjoyable!
The Goddess Event is in its 10th year of running and walking! Historically it will be one of few community events that can claim that 20% of their occurrences have been virtually – participants only seen through selfies and testaments. Here’s the great news… participants are still engaging, feeling excited and being physically active.
What’s stopping YOU?
Change change change…noted as a major variable to causing stress in a person’s life. Here’s the upside…physical activity can create “eustress” or beneficial stress that assists the body in feeling well and strong both physically and emotionally. Identifying your barriers is a great starting point to finding a clear path to change.
Create a plan!
Time to get out the pen and paper or perhaps create a grid on your lap top. Form those lists – what makes you say YES and what stops you from moving? Here are some simple steps…
Take baby steps.
Make it FUN – you are more likely to be a “repeat offender” if you enjoyed yourself!
Be realistic – if high school was a few decades ago, perhaps change your expectation!
Invite a friend to join you. Research reveals that when you commit to showing up to meet a friend or a group you are more likely to follow through! YES, even if it’s virtually!
Lastly – always celebrate your accomplishments! Take time to remind YOU that you are worth it, you CAN do it, and golly gee – you are AWESOME!
Let’s go!
Find out what’s happening in your community - in person or virtually! Join in…take the first step… and please know that you will have a team behind you!
My name is Mena Westhaver. I created and founded Sole Sisters Victoria in 2006 after working with run/walk clinics and in the fitness industry leading group fitness since 1990. There appeared to be a gap in our community – a place for women to congregate, exercise, despite anything! There are no qualifications, no expectations and in result… no hesitations! I have never heard a women say, “I wish I didn’t show up” but many times I hear, “I wish I did this sooner”!
Sole Sisters Victoria encourages women of all ages, abilities, sizes and styles to move…. YES, our values are aligned with the Goddess Community!
Check out our fun warm-up video – I am alongside 5 Sister Goddesses that sincerely just love to have fun! How do we have fun? We move. We do what we CAN. We socialize while doing it. We cheer each other on and we never hesitate to shimmy!
Thank you to Margot Gunn, Tania Conforti, Karen Milne, Jess van Dyke and Val Kerr for showing your brave courageous Goddess colors… you inspire me to continue to move…I know others will be joining in because of you!
……………. lastly, remember you CAN!
